Ask Me Anything: How many words should my toddler be saying?

In our Ask Me Anything video series, the Interaction Coach answers parents' top questions related to their child's communication development. Question: How many words should my child be saying at 18 months? Answer: We expect an 18-month-old child to be saying between 10 and 20 words, with a big jump at 24 months to 200-500 words. A speech-language pathologist may also ask you if your child is combining any words into two-word utterances, as we expect to hear a couple of those as well. Examples of two-word utterances are “Mommy up” or “Daddy go.” If you are a parent or loved one of a young child, drop your question below, and it may be featured in our next Q&A.

Joyce is very knowledgeable. Not only as a speech therapist but also on how the school system works. Which is very helpful going through the IEP process. She was able to engage with my daughter and was never hesitant to help in any way. I would definitely recommend Joyce to anyone that is looking for a trustworthy, caring and informed speech therapist.
